For aspiring directors, there are three things that you really need to be focusing on.
The first is creating a governance profile. This is not your executive CV, rather it’s an opportunity to clearly articulate your experiences, relationships and achievements, which reflects what you can bring to a board environment that adds value.
The second area of focus that will help you on your journey is your networks. It is highly likely that your first governance role will be the result of your networks and connections. These relationships will be invaluable.
And the third point is being visible. If the marketplace doesn’t see you in the governance space that you’re wanting to get into, make sure that you start to create a story and that you are being seen and being visible.
