With values of Respect, Responsibility and Guardianship, Nelmac Kūmānu has enhanced New Zealand’s environment for community wellbeing for more than 25 years, primarily in the Nelson and Tasman regions. Founded with capability in water and greenspaces management, Nelmac Kūmānu is developing capability to build on its base whilst diversifying into broader biodiversity, environmental and pest management areas, opening a broader market of opportunities to support the environment while achieving commercial objectives.
With a strategy that will see an even deeper commitment to the nurture of nature across New Zealand while ensuring sustainable profitability, Nelmac Kūmānu is now looking for a talented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to empower and guide the business to achieve its objectives – strategic, commercial and environmental.

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Board, through the Chair, the CEO takes overall accountability for leading the successful implementation of the strategy and achieving the objectives set; strategic, commercial and environmental. In doing this, the CEO will, amongst other things:
- Lead a high-performing and collaborative Senior Leadership Team in accordance with the values and behaviours expected, empowering them to achieve organisational objectives.
- Champion a culture that holds its people at its heart, keeping them safe and healthy, engaged and empowered to achieve.
- Manage key and critical stakeholder relationships, ensuring clients, stakeholders and advisors are connected to Nelmac Kūmānu and contribute to achievement of strategic objectives.
- Challenge the thinking of each function on how the organisation operates to ensure each function optimises opportunities and operates effectively, championing operational excellence.
- Lead the consideration and development of new initiatives and opportunities that will enhance profitability, productivity, and achievement of strategic objectives.
All while ensuring Nelmac Kūmānu has an operating model that supports sustainable profitability.
We need a CEO who has leadership as a core capability; understanding that the role of the CEO is to ensure clarity of objectives, accessibility to resources to enable delivery and to clear the pathway to achievement of objectives.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be a seasoned executive leader or CEO and you will have had exposure to the infrastructure, contracting or related industries. Project or contract based work with tight margins and high volumes will be well within your wheelhouse; you understand the levers of performance in this context and you have led through your share of commercial challenges.
People, cultural and values-based leadership combined with a deep connection to our environment will be what really sets you apart as the right CEO for Nelmac Kūmānu. A natural leader without ego, you will have real strength to your character – people say that you are a leader with mana - and you know innately that your role as CEO is to enable your people and the organisation to succeed through your coaching and leadership.
Strongly relationship focused, you will demonstrate how you build your understanding of a sector or organisation through the relationships you have fostered. You don’t shy away from tough conversations and you form relationships based on integrity and mutual respect.
